2008 Application - Rejected at Public Inquiry
The Appeal Decision has arrived and it's good news!
Appeal A - The erection of three turbines - REJECTED!
Appeal B - The erection of 60m meteorological mast - GRANTED!
This is a great result, however we must now wait and see if the developers, Bolsterstone, will take up their right to erect a meteorological mast knowing that turbines on this site have already been rejected.

The Public Inquiry was held 20th - 23rd October 2009 at The Council Chambers, Civic Centre, Carlisle. There was a huge show of opposition to the application with many local residents in attendance. Many voiced thier opinions on a wide range of topics. The Inquiry was adjourned until the 14th of December with the appellants planning evidence still to be heard and cross examined, followed by sum-ups from all parties. On 15th December the inspector will make a site visit. This is not open to the public although we will have a representative accompanying him. Make sure that your opposition signs are clearly visable and in good condition so he can see first hand the level of opposition throughout the village!
Friday 21st August 2009 saw 'VESTLIFE' perform at Cumwhinton Village Hall in aid of the fighting fund. The evening included a BBQ, BAR, RAFFLE, and an AUCTION OF PROMISES. The evening was a sell out, with around 120 happy customers! Together we managed to raise £3052! Thank You to all that came and supported us!
Sunday 23rd August saw the Duck Race at Dalston Mill Stream in aid of the fighting fund. Around £1200 was raised, again a big thank you to all that supported us and braved the fine english weather on the day. The duck's didn't mind!
On Saturday 5th September a Coffee Morning, cake stall, raffle and plant stall was held in Cumwhinton Village Hall. A total of £518 was raised to aid the fighting fund. Thank you to all the bakers and plant growers!
The Pie and Pea Supper held on Friday 9th October was a major success, despite there being a technical hitch with the Village Hall oven deciding to break shortly before service! In all we raised around £1200 for the fighting fund.

After consulting our solicitor we have been informed that the amount we need to raise in order to pay for experts is around £25,000. An achieveable amount if we work together! Donatons to address in the pink box below!
07/05/09 - We have been successful in obtaining a full public enquiry. As an opposition group we have also been granted rule 6 party status. This means that we have been granted a right to speak and be represented at the public enquiry. We are not only able to have our arguments heard, more importantly we have the right to question the arguments of the developer. To do this we now need to employ the relevant experts to argue our case and test the developer’s evidence. We are talking about legal representation from planning lawyers, environmental impact assessment experts and so on. To cut to the point we now all need to donate to the cause to help us fight this appeal by using all the tools available. THIS IS OUR LAST CHANCE TO PRESERVE OUR QUALITY OF LIFE IN THIS AREA. 14/04/09 - We now have confirmation of the applicants written appeal to the Secretary of State for both the turbines and the meteorological mast at Newlands. We feel that a written appeal is not usual for this type of development and that a public enquiry should be requested. We therefore need to lobby the Planning Inspectorate to this effect. SUCCESSFUL!
02/04/09 - The applicants have lodged a written appeal with the planning inspectorate regarding the meteorological mast. We understand that an appeal for the erection of the turbines has also been submitted but we have yet to recieve any further information. We will keep you infomed via the website.

More good news. The meteorological mast has once again been rejected by the council. (19/12/08)
Great news! The planning application has been turned down by Carlisle City Council. We now have to wait and see if Bolsterstone Plc will choose to appeal against the decision, which is likely. Thank you everyone for the support but it is far from over. (03/10/08) View News & Star Article here

Say No To Newlands Wind Farm
Cumwhinton residents and local villagers have launched an action group to fight the Newlands wind farm proposal to build three 115m (377ft) tall wind turbines, that is approx. 32m (104ft) taller than Dixon's Chimney.
These turbines would be situated north east of the Junction 42 of the M6, between the B6263 Wetheral road and Cumwhinton Road.
The site is extremely close to the village of Cumwhinton, many dwellings falling within only a few hundred metres (see picture below).
The action group are of the opinion that the proposed wind farm site will have too many negative impacts on the surrounding area.
